Movie Quote Monday - As You Wish

Back in the day when we blogged with some semblance of regularity, we did "Movie Quote Mondays."  You can check out the movie quote label if you'd like!

Last week I watched a short segment on The Today Show (more on that later in this series!) about the 25th anniversary of one of my family's all-time favorite movies.  Chances are it's one of your favorites, too.  And if not, well, that's just...INCONCEIVABLE!

This movie may be one of the most quotable movies ever.  So there's no way I'm going to even begin to pick my favorites.  My niece and I were in church the other week, and the minister was sharing a story about a possum that he really thought was dead.  I leaned over and said, "but he was only 'mostly dead'."  Oh my, we almost lost it!

I just love the whole movie.  The whole, entire perfect piece of cinema.  And yes, I say perfect even though my filmmaker-wanna-be teenager cringes when I say a movie is perfect.  Truly, he does.  He's weird.

So here's wishing you safety from ROUS', immunity to iocane powder, and, of course, True Love!

Pam

This is Day 8 in our 31 days series.

“It’s a Major Award!”

I’ll now be taking questions regarding the photo drive-by that I was involved in this afternoon.

001

Yes this is the house in question. Yes I participated from our family vehicle.

002

Yes, I made my husband stop in the middle of the street so that I could get a good picture of this house. I also made him turn around to give me time to change my camera settings back to auto. We sat in the middle of the street, but it’s not a crowded street, so it was ok.

003

Yes this window is the reason we stopped. Yes I shouted out “They have a Major Award in their window!!!” the first time I saw it. Yes it took my family a moment to know what I meant.

005

Yes I was aware that these were sold (or perhaps they won it????) I was not aware that anyone actually bought them.

Last question.

YES, I’m totally tromping around their backyard tomorrow looking for that Italian delivery crate.

This interview has been my early Christmas gift to you.

Procrastination Friday Extravaganza with a little whine

Y'all know I'm moving, against my will right? And that I have known about this fact for, oh, a good 2 months.
Yeah.
A rational human being would have their home all packed and ready to go, with the exception of what they need to survive the next 2 weeks.
I never claimed to be rational.
My hubs has warned me of the impending crazy rush that will be my life. "You need to just do it, or you'll end up with 2 weeks to pack the house."
I swear the man's a prophet.
Here I am, 2 weeks from the kids' last day of school, and I have packed 10 boxes. (10 out of 200 ain't so bad, right?)
I have come up with all kinds of excuses why I can't get it done.

-I'm depressed about the move and just plain don't want to do it.
-There were a few hot days (without AC) that I couldn't do anything other than sit on the couch under the fan and pretend to be a mannequin.
-I didn't have the proper packing equipment (newspaper, tape, markers, etc.)
-Laundry takes up all of my time.
-I don't want to move, therefore I don't want to pack. Or as Plato said "I dread, therefore I resist."
Did I already mention that one? Oh. Sorry.
It's a big one.

I have hit the place where I'm running out of excuses and time. I have to quit mullygrubbing and just get the thing done. I really thought that the idea of moving would grow on me the closer I got to the big event, but it seems just the opposite is the case. But that doesn't change anything. There are times when you gotta do things you don't want to. Go with the flow, roll with the punches, yada yada yada. ...Bleh.
Soooo.
On that uplifting note, I think I'm gonna put on an audiobook, escape to another world and pack this one up while I forget about it at the same time.
"Denial is a wonderful coping mechanism." as my SIL likes to say.
I agree. Until it gets to the point where you're just not able to deny anymore.
Looks like our waterfront property is starting to perk and will be on the market soon.

Whine whine whine. I need some cheese to go along with all of this.

*PS* Please, please leave funny/witty/cheesy comments & cheer me up. Any quotes from The Princess Bride should do the trick.

I'll start.
Boooo. Boooooo.

Transition STINKS!!!

See above title. I would use a slightly stronger word, but my mom reads this and frankly I'm still afraid of disappointing her. Seriously, y'all she would be less than happy. I grew up in a house where the mild potty words were not tolerated, so I will respect my mother and leave it as is.
I want to birdwalk a bit here and welcome my darling hubba-bubba to the blogosphere. He is doing a collaborative blog with his BFF, just like us. I won't go so far as to say that they stole the idea, but we were an inspiration. He posted this about transitions. He's optimistically hopeful and excited and even energetic about the whole thing. I'm feeling guilty for not being as happy about his new job and opportunities. I'm just plain sad. I'm over the crying for days on end bit, but I'm still down.
Here's the 411. Can you still say that, or is that soooo 2004?
My husband is a Youth Pastor. And for 4 more days he will be. He is making the HUGE leap ahead to Senior Pastor, and dragging me along kicking and screaming I'm genuinely supportive. I really am supportive. I really am happy for him and his chance to do what he's supposed to be doing. But, I wasn't just whistling dixie when I said I cried for days on end. I did. 3 to be exact.
I feel so silly crying over a move.
We are moving to what I have dubbed "The edge of outer darkness." It is a tiny town about 2 weeks from everywhere (O Brother Where Art Thou). Really, about 30 minutes to town one way, 45 the other.
This is what I was referring to when I wrote about serious junk.
This transition is a big deal. Not only for my main man, but for me. I don't feel ready, prepared, or even willing to be a Pastor's Wife. Oops. Did I just say that out loud?
Of course I didn't. Much worse, I wrote it to be recorded forever here (until I get in trouble and have to delete it.) :-)
So there you have it, folks. You now have the skinny. I'm just pulling out all the old corny phrases.
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that is is such a shame to have to pack up and move since I just got the house organized and clean.
Gotcha covered. When I found out we were moving I just sorta gave up. So I'm back to where I started pretty much. Hey, I don't have the energy to cry all day and clean. Now all I have to do is throw mess in boxes, strap it to the car (above pic) and I'm done.
Lickety split.
Big Fat HA!
I'll keep y'all updated on my progress.
Do you have any seriously traumatic move stories that you're brave enough to share?
If it's too painful, I understand. Believe me, I understand.

Movie Quote Monday...On a Monday!

Abby Mallard: Tough morning?
Chicken Little: I had a run-in with my old nemesis.
Abby Mallard: Gum on the crosswalk?
Chicken Little: He won this round.

If I had to pick my Top Ten Disney movies, Chicken Little would definitely be up there. Actually I’m not sure I could pick only ten. (Hey that’s a good idea for a post, Jen, we can list our Top 10 animated, romance, comedy.) Back to Chicken Little, the above is the opening scene and one of my favs in the movie! But here's the quote I'm actually somewhat basing my post on today:

Chicken Little: I put on five ounces this year. I've really bulked up.

Our oldest had to go to the doctor the other week. He’s almost 14, he got on the scales and he weighed in at a humongo 90 pounds. He was so excited, ‘yay, I finally passed 90.’ I was also thinking, woo-hoo Josh is finally at 90. Then I had a flash back to my 8th grade year and my 8th grade weight, I was 5’2” and tipped the scales at 110 (oh my heart, I would give one of my kids back to weigh that again! I kid! Seriously! Well, there have been a few days that deal would be pretty tempting.)

So I weighed 20 more pounds at 14 than my little scrawny-tailed teenager. Ugh, do you know how sickening that is? And while I’m on the subject, I think something’s totally out of whack with the universe when I and my teenager both develop upper lip peach fuzz at the same time. What? No fair! Did my brain forget to tell my face that I’m 33? I shouldn’t have this and still dealing with acne! Mad, I say, the world's gone mad.

I mean my body sure has no problem knowing its age. My calves and thighs are pretty durn tired right now. My beloved trainer took me on an hour long trek this afternoon. Later this evening when I said to him that my legs hurt, he gave me a high five!?! Are you serious? Gotta love him, and just as an update so far there’s been NO weight loss but hubby says I look firmer..me-ow…

My inner Lord of The Rings Geek keeps escaping.

Ok. Pam got the day going with a great post that got all spiritual and stuff. See, we can be serious.
My personal favorite lines from this trilogy are in The Fellowship when Merry and Pip realize that Aragorn doesn't have the same values and standards that they do. How can they follow a man who doesn't even know about "elevenses"?
Aragorn: Gentlemen, we do not stop till nightfall.
Pippin: What about breakfast?
Aragorn: You've already had it.
Pippin: We've had one, yes. What about second breakfast? [Aragorn turns and walks off in disgust]
Merry: I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip.
Pippin: What about elevenses? Luncheon? Afternoon tea? Dinner? Supper? He knows about them, doesn't he?
Merry: I wouldn't count on it.
Ahh. I love these two. They speak my language. In my family we call this the Preventive Diet.
You eat all day so you don't get hungry.
Oh, I said something about being serious, didn't I?
Well, ok, fine, if I have to. (Insert teen angst huff here.)
My other favorite line from these movies is when Sam and Frodo are trying to make it up that big volcanic mountain. Mordor? I have a little geek in me but not enough to have the entire map of middle earth memorized. I was just on the IMDb site, where you can get all things movie related. I was right. Apparently that geek is more powerful than I thought.
Back to my point. Frodo is very weak. He is whining that he can't go on any longer. Anyone else get tired of Frodo towards the end of movie #2? Anyway...
It was already established that Sam cannot carry the ring. Frodo pitched a royal fit when Sam offered to help. Here Sam is on this journey only to help Frodo and Frodo turns on him. Yeah, yeah, the power of the ring and all that. Still, no way to treat your BFF.
What does Sam do? Does he give Frodo a taste of his own medicine? "Fine, do it yourself, see how far you can get without me."?
I'm glad to say that Sam was the bigger hobbit. (Hee hee, that makes me laugh.)
"I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you. "
Now that is a true friend.
Isn't that how we all should be? I can carry you, even if there's nothing else I can do to help.
This always makes me think of the church. We should carry each other. But our mission is not just to have a club where we get together and make each other feel better. There is a whole world out there that is depending on us getting that ring into the fire.
Even the people that have no idea that there's a struggle going on benefit from our carrying each other. But we can't stop there. Those unaware people are the ones I'm interested in getting to and helping. I heard a speaker once refer to those we call "unsaved". I like this man's term better. "The people God misses most." I'm doing my best to remain aware of this other world while living in the one I am surrounded by.

Whew, that's heavy stuff. Ok, enough for being all serious. It has really worn me out.
Can I say that I love these movies? We own all three. Extended versions. With additional DVDs of just about any info you ever wanted to know about New Zealand and the making of these movies. And we have watched it all.
There's that geek bragging. Sorry. :-D
Great flick pick, Pam.

Movie Quote Monday

Kid on Bus: What are you gonna do today, Napoleon?

Napoleon: Whatever I feel like I wanna do. Gosh!

Grandma: How was school?

Napoleon: The worst day of my life, what do you think?

Yes, this confirms it. If you had suspicions before that my family and I were complete goofballs, this should seal the deal for you. We adore Napoleon Dynamite. I mean we belly laugh, guffaw, and snort when this movie graces our tv screen. I guess the sad thing is Daryl and I have a really weird sense of humor and obviously we’ve passed it along to the kids. I guess it’s not so strange our boys (13 & 11) think this is the greatest movie ever, but even the girls go around quoting those two lines above.

From my extended research, I’ve discovered people fall into three categories on their opinion of this film.

1.) Like my family – they love it!
2.) Like my sister- they hate it!
3.) Like one of my good friends—they ‘just don’t get it' - which makes us diehard fans laugh all the harder!

I debated about whether or not to admit this very damaging piece of evidence into our Goofiest Family Ever trial, but to my critics I say ‘whatever I feel like I wanna do. Gosh!” Last year on Valentine’s Day, I received a Hallmark card with sound from my kiddos. Are you ready for this? The outside of the card (see pic) says ‘What would Valentine’s Day be Without Family?” When you open it, you hear Napoleon’s throaty, okay that’s pushing it, nasally voice say “The worst day of my life, what do you think?” Oh my, I'm laughing just thinking about it. (I also love the gorgeous damask background on the card…yes, I’m still obsessed.)

So leave a comment and tell the world which category you and/or your family falls in.
Otherwise…yes, I can’t resist…it’ll be ‘the worst day of my life, what do you think?”

Movie Quote Monday - Tuesday Edition

Yes, I know its Tuesday, okay, it’s really late on a Tuesday, but still I had the best intentions to post this yesterday. Well they were good intentions, alright already! They were teeny-tiny intentions and not very good ones. There are you happy now? Can we please get on with this post?

One of my favorite movies is Pirates of the Caribbean (do you say CAH-ribbeon or Cara-BEEIN? I go for the first one myself). And I am referring to Curse of the Black Pearl, I like the two following movies but I love the first one. I am also a huge Johnny Depp fan...ah, I still remember trying to watch 21 Jump Street on our local Fox affiliate when I was a young gal. It was basically all snow, and you couldn’t even hear anything but I still tried, man, how I tried.

But back to my chosen quote, Jack Sparrow tells Will Turner to ‘wait for the opportune moment.’ Of course a little later he tells him, ‘if you were waiting for the opportune moment that was it.

Ah wisdom from a pirate who even with gross teeth and weird hair is still a total stud muffin. How many times have I not waited for the oppportune moment? For me it’s not so much missing the moment, it’s bulldozing it. I want to get something off my chest as soon as hubby or the kids walk in the door. Really, who wants to come home from work or school and get ripped as soon as you walk in the door? Patience is needed in these situations and since my goal was a short and sweet post I will refrain from breaking out in the lyrics of GNR’s rock ballad (not my fave one but appropriate).

I’m not saying these issues don’t need to be addressed (insert your personal issue here) but if I’m really annoyed the kids once again left their wet towels in the floor for the hundred-thousandth time…wait deep breath. Okay, if I’m frustrated by these insignificant details, can’t I wait to lovingly discuss these issues until they've at least had a cookie?

So much wisdom from my sexy scalawag with his beaded, braided goatee.

Well, I’m off to put on my PJs and watch some American Idol. We’re rooting for Felicia Barton (she’s a Church of God Virginia girl)…go Felicia!
